Electrical Safety in the Workplace

Two types of homes in which smart home automation systems can be incredibly useful

Whilst smart home automation systems can be a wonderful addition to virtually all residential properties, here are two types of homes in which they're especially useful.

Extremely large homes

Electricians who fit these automation systems will often be asked to install them in extremely large homes, where this technology can prove particularly helpful. In a typical, average-sized home, it might take a person a few seconds to walk from, for example, their living room to the kitchen, to pre-heat their oven. However, if a person resides in a very large home, it might take them a lot longer to reach the kitchen and perform this task. If they find themselves having to make this long journey every time they need to do a basic action, like turn off a light in the bathroom that's on the opposite side of their home, they might get frustrated by all of the time they waste traversing their large property.

Furthermore, very large homes also tend to have more features than smaller ones; this might include a swimming pool, multiple electrical or gas fireplaces, lots of exterior doors that need to be locked each day, as well as a triple garage and a pool house. As such, they will have a lot more of these simple household tasks related to the management of these features that they need to do each day.

If a person with this type of big home gets a smart home automation system, they could spend far less time walking around their property whenever they need to switch off lights, lock their doors, heat up their pool or turn a particular fireplace on or off, as they could operate their home's numerous features through their smartphone's home automation app, and in doing so, free up a lot of time for themselves each day.

Homes occupied by families with lots of children

Electricians will also often fit these systems in homes that are occupied by families with several children. Children tend not to be as conscientious about switching off the television and the lights when they leave a room, as they may not understand the importance of avoiding excess energy consumption. In some instances, they may be too young to safely do things such as close the curtains at night. For parents with several children, having to constantly remind them to do these things or having to wander around after their children throughout the day, to switch off the electrical items their kids have been using, could get tiresome. Likewise, busy parents who are exhausted by the end of each day might find it a hassle to have to go around their entire home and close all of the curtains.

In a home like this, it could be helpful for the parents to have an electrician add a smart home automation system, that would allow them to use their phones to instantly switch off any appliances or lights their children have left on, and to close their curtains at night (if they also add automated curtain tracks to the property). This could spare the parents some stress and reduce their daily workload.
