Electrical Safety in the Workplace

5 Signs That Your Home Needs Electrical Rewiring

Your electrical wiring transmits electricity to all parts of your house. When working properly, every outlet, appliance and light fixtures will work seamlessly. If the electrical wiring is faulty, the system will not only be working inefficiently, but the electrical system also puts you and your family at risk. You need to ensure that you remain on top of things by scheduling regular electrical maintenance in your home. Faulty electrical wiring will present itself in various ways. Here are five signs that your home is in need of electrical rewiring.

Flickering Lights

Are the lights in your home flickering? While this could be a sign that your bulbs are not properly screwed in, it's most likely a sign that your home needs electrical rewiring. If the electrical wiring is faulty, then electricity won't run through it, and as such, it won't reach the destination. This irregular connection results in the flickering lights

The Circuit Breaker Is Constantly Tripping

Your circuit breaker is designed to trip if there's an electricity overload, ensuring your home is safe from electrical surges. Therefore, it's normal for it to trip once in a while. However, if it's tripping too many times in a day or a week, ensure you contact a professional electrician to diagnose the problem and correct it.

Your Switches and Outlets Are Discoloured

Discoloured outlets are usually a result of damaged electrical wiring or loose electrical connections. Loose wiring connections may cause the electricity to escape in the form of sparks, which warp the outlets. These sparks are an extremely dangerous hazard for your home. As the loose connections continue to degrade, the problem will worsen and the size of the sparks will also grow. The bigger the size of the spark, the greater the risk of shock and fire.

Sparks as You Plug Into an Outlet

If you attempt to plug in a device to an outlet and you witness sparks escaping from the outlet, ensure you stay away from that electrical outlet. Once you have ceased using it, contact an electrician to inspect the outlet, and provide appropriate solutions. Most likely, the electrician will recommend an electrical rewiring to put a stop to that problem entirely.

Buzzing Sound and Burning Odour

Your electrical wiring is often hidden behind your walls. If you constantly hear a buzzing sound coming from inside your walls, there is a problem with your electrical wiring. This sound is often accompanied by a burning odour, whose source you can't seem to pinpoint. If you notice the burning smell and a buzzing sound, ensure you call an electrician immediately.

Problems with your electrical wiring should always be treated with urgency. Ensure you call an electrician to deal with the situation.
