Electrical Safety in the Workplace

Why use LED High-Bay Lights in Your Warehouse?

If your warehouse has a high ceiling, then you have to think carefully about how you light the space. If your lighting is too close to your roof, then the area may be too dark at the working level. However, if your lighting is too low, then fittings might get in the way of your storage shelving, equipment and machines.

A high-bay system may be your best option. This system uses suspended lights that hang low enough to illuminate the warehouse but high enough not to be in the way. Once you decide to use these lights, you have to consider what type of bulbs to use in them.

LED bulbs are a good option here. Why?

LED Bulbs Last Longer

LED light bulbs last longer than many other bulbs. They don't have internal parts, like filaments, that can burn out or get damaged. This longer life expectancy is particularly useful in a high-bay lighting system.

High-bay lights sit at height. You can't simply stretch up and change the bulb when it dies. Chances are your fittings will be too high to reach from a regular ladder.

So, when a bulb goes, your maintenance guys might have to use mobile scaffolds or hydraulic lifts to put a new one in the fitting. As well as being time-consuming, working at heights can be dangerous.

If you use LED bulbs, then you don't need to change the bulbs all that frequently. From a safety perspective, your guys won't have to work at height all that often.

LED Bulbs Are Energy Efficient

While you need your warehouse to be brightly lit so that your staff have enough light to work safely, you don't want to waste money on energy costs. If your warehouse operates on a 24/7 basis, then you're burning lights all the time. Some industrial bulbs can be power-hungry.

LED lights typically don't incur high energy costs. They use smart technology that creates effective light without using a lot of power. For example, they don't waste energy through heat loss like some other bulbs.

So, if you use LED lights in your high-bay fittings, then your energy costs will be lower. These lights save energy rather than waste it.

Before you make final decisions on your high-bay lighting system and its bulbs, contact local commercial electricians. They can do a site visit and help you design an effective, safe and energy-efficient system before installing it for you.
